MU

Who are we?

Mondragon Unibertsitatea is a young university, created in 1997 and promoted by three educational cooperatives with an extensive trajectory and experience in teaching which dates back to 1943. At present it is made up of 4 faculties:

  • The Faculty of Engineering
  • The Faculty of Business
  • The Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences
  • The Faculty of Gastronomic Sciences-Basque Culinary Center

Its activity is distributed in 9 campuses located in the Basque Country and 8 entrepreneurship laboratories, 4 of them in Spain and 4 in China, India, Mexico and Korea.

In addition, it is a member of the MONDRAGON Co-operative Group, the most important business group in the Basque Country and tenth in Spain, with commercial and manufacturing locations in the five continents.

A differentiating element of Mondragon Unibertsitatea is its legal structure, since it is a non-profit cooperative university.

Mondragon Unibertsitatea has its own innovative educational model designed to respond to the new needs of society. This model focusses on student’s learning rather than teaching.  It is also an educational project where the practical component acquires a very important place, in which it is compulsory for all students to carry out practical internships, apprenticeships and DUAL programs in companies and/or organizations.

Due to this relationship, the university has immediate and permanent knowledge of the needs and demands of companies, which enables it to adapt its training offer and professional profile of its graduates to them, guaranteeing to a great extent high and fast employability of the graduates.

Why we are participating in the project

The Apprenticeship project is a perfect context to identify innovative practices within the partner countries.

We would like to improve our knowledge to design high quality apprenticeship activities thus, strengthing our relationship with students and companies.

We want to share our 50 years of experience in WBL activities and to work together with other Higher Education Institutions.

Our role in the project

One of the singular features of MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA is the fact that the university offers VET and HVET degrees, in co-existence with bachelor, master and doctoral degrees. This creates a unique ecosystem highly valued by industry. There are more than 500 companies the university collaborates with, including companies of the MONDRAGON Co-operative Group.

The development of the parallel academic – practical training constitutes one of the main characteristics of MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA since its beginning, due to the strong relationship with industry.

Because of this relationship, the university has immediate and permanent knowledge of the needs and demands of the companies, which enables it to adapt its training offer and professional profile of its graduates to them, guaranteeing to a great extent a high and fast employability of the graduates.

Sharing our 50 years’ of experience in work based learning activities we can contribute a lot working together with other Higher Education institutions.
