The company has developed a trainee program for dual students. They have a written documentation for the skills and competences development of the student.

The role of the mentor is often taken over by the alumni.

The company offers going abroad for the internship phase, because of the fact that it is part of an international corporation.

All apprenticeships are evaluated by using a standardized questionnaire. The representatives of the company come to HEI for a yearly tuning session as a part of evaluation. The students are always in contact with the in-company mentor. The company also offers student projects to tackle during the study phase at the university as also bachelor/master thesis themes.

Context

Brau Union Österreich is part of the corporation Heineken. It is closely linked to tradition but obliged to the future and characterizes and shapes the Austrian beer market.

The company offers internships for students, short practices during holidays. Because the company in Graz is part of an international corporation each student has to go abroad (e. g. Brewery in South Africa, Jamaica) for an internship phase.

The company is taking part in the dual study program and offering the internship for dual students. There is a close contact with the department responsible, practical work coordinator and FH student´s mentors to define the required learning objectives. Each year the company offers places for internship to 5-6 students.

Planning

The company has a trainee program for dual students. They have written documentation for the skills and competences development of the student.

The role of the mentor is often taken over by our alumni. Each year the company inserts their offer on internships. Here a student can find the topic, the place and the requirements. The student has to apply directly at the company, he/she has an interview and then the company/ department of the company selects the student.

There is an employment contract signed between the company and the student, who is paid an income.

In the last internship phase the students have to prepare a bachelor/master thesis with the support of the company, in-company mentor and academic mentor. Therefor the both mentors meet at the beginning of the last internship phase and discuss the topic, goals etc. together with the student.

Realization

Mentors are often our alumni, who also assess the students at the end of the internship phase. Because the company in Graz or other locations in Austria are part of an international corporation the students have to take into consideration internship phase abroad. The company tries to standardize the working places, so students can change easily from one company location to the other. The students appreciate the positive working atmosphere and the diverse scope of working tasks.
